Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at duuna@durham.ac.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

That's a common sentiment. The UN can be slow and bureaucratic, and achieving global consensus is challenging. Even so, the UN has played a crucial role in peacekeeping missions, promoting human rights, and tackling global issues like climate change and poverty.

DUUNA is not about blindly praising the UN, but about supporting the UN's values and holding it accountable. We work to educate the student body and advocate for policies that align with the UN's goals. In fact, since a key part of holding the UN accountable is criticising its inefficiencies and shortfalls, perhaps your cynicism towards the UN is a sign that you should get involved with DUUNA. Let's get talking about the changes you think the UN needs.

Ultimately, the UN is most effective when there's strong public support. By joining forces with others who believe in a better world, you can amplify your voice and make a difference.

At DUUNA, we offer more than just MUN simulations, although this is definitely a key part of what we do. Being a UNA as opposed to just a MUN society allows us to engage with the UN's work in support of its goals in other ways, such as through coffee talks, speaker events and advocacy! In addition to this, the name also reflects our status as a branch of UNA-UK – the country's national-level United Nations Association.

DUUNA President's Reply: We love hearing new suggestions from members and non-members alike. If you would like to pitch something to us, we suggest that you either email us at duuna@durham.ac.uk or use the contact form available on our website. Please don't be shy and reach out :)

If you are a member and have an idea for a project you would like to lead, we would be more than happy to support you. Just let us know by filling out this form, and we will be sure to get back to you!
